What is a Henna Tattoo?

(ANY Airbrushed Tattoo you see , we can also do in Henna!)

Henna is the Persian name of a plant native to the Middle East. The leaves are dried, crushed and come to me as a fine powder. Lemon juice and both tea tree (in some cases) and eucalyptus oils(also in some cases) are added to make it into a thick paste. Henna has been used for centuries for body adornment, hair care and natural healing.

It is soothing to the skin and you will be getting 100% natural dye. Many many Countries Use Henna (mehndi) for many different reasons- some to keep cool , it was known that Henna would keep the body cooler when the palms of the hand were stained. Soon after it became an art instead of just having red palms. In Egypt they used it  to preserve finger nails on the bodies of the dead. It is also used for hair as well as many mnay other things.

The art of Henna, called Mendhi today, is traditionally done on the hands of a bride as part of a very important wedding ritual and ceremony. The belief is that the deeper the color of the Henna on the skin, the longer the love between the couple will last.

The day after the wedding, a bride goes to live with her husband and his family. During the first month of her marriage, she isn't expected to use her hands at all - family and maids take care of everything. Since her in-laws do not expect her to help with the chores, they must love her completely, and with that, so must her husband. Therefore, the longer the Mendhi lasts, the more love there is all around.

The paste itself has a greenish tint which turns almost black when it dries. Once removed, the color of your Henna tattoo could span through tones of rich orange, red and brown depending on your skin tone and type.

**NOTE: THERE IS NO NATURAL BLACK HENNA**

Avoid all claims to black henna - you will be putting harmful

chemicals into your pores' PPD can cause liver and kidney failure ad well as burn your skin.

Make sure your henna is PPD FREE!

HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?

Your Henna color and longevity will differ across your body. It is darkest towards your hands and feet - designs toward the center of your body will be lighter. The longer you leave the paste on your skin, the darker your design will be and the longer it will last - I recommend leaving it on for a minimum of 1 hour.  Your new body art should last 1-4 weeks with 2 weeks being average. To help prevent premature fading:

Avoid letting the area come in contact with water for the first day.

Cover design with Vaseline or Olive Oil if you plan on soaking in water a long extended amount of timer.

Use sunscreen before prolonged exposure to the sun.

Don't go swimming in chlorine or salt water for first 24 hours. They will fade your Henna tattoo very quickly.

*REMEMBER - Your henna body art can be revitalized and maintained for a small amount of the of the price.*

HOW IS IT APPLIED?

Most designs are freehanded using a pastry bag with a fine tip. As the paste dries, it will need to be re-moistened with lemon juice and sugar which will be provided for you. This mixture will form a shiny, sticky coating which keeps the paste adhered to the skin after frequent applications during the 1st hour.

To Remove Paste:

Remove paste before showering. DO NOT WASH OFF UNDER WATER.

Moisten paste with Olive Oil to help remove paste and darker henna color.

Gently scrape off paste using fingernails, a spoon, etc.

PREPARATION :

  • Clean desired location on body extremely well the day prior to application. Clean your area once again hours before application. soapand water is best.
  • Your Henna tattoo needs to be applied in an area where clothing cannot smear the paste.
  • The paste will be wet so you should plan on being free and relaxed for about an hour.
  • Stay warm - warm skin absorbs the henna much better.

No matter what your design it can be done with Henna!
